Hardin County will once again be collecting recyclables beginning March 1.
“We are excited to be reopening and expanding this very popular program,” Hardin County Deputy Judge-Executive Daniel London said in a news release.
According to the release, the recycling program will be expanding from one location to seven.
“We worked very hard for several months prior to COVID-19 to elevate this atrophied program to big league status, but like most circumstances in our life today, COVID-19 dealt a blow. Nevertheless, not only is it back, but it’s back bigger and better than ever,” he said.
In addition to the current location at the Farmers’ Market on Peterson Drive in Elizabethtown, the following locations will be available beginning March 1:
• Elizabethtown: Lions Club, 2520 Ring Road
• Eastview: West 84 Fire Department, 21129 Sonora-Hardin Springs Road
• Glendale: Behind East Hardin Middle School, 129 College St.
• Sonora: Beside city hall, 121 N. Maple St.
• Vine Grove: Near the railroad crossing, South Mill Street
• West Point: Behind the caboose, South Fourth Street
The recycling locations will accept cardboard, metal, paper and plastic.
“We are very grateful to Meade County Judge-Executive Leslie Stith and Solid Waste Director Rick Sturgeon for their investment in the Meade County Regional Recycling Center workforce to make this happen,” London said. “If it weren’t for them making very tough financial decisions, the program would remain suspended until inmate labor programs restarted later this year.”
