Earth Festival Events to feature special recycling collection

COOPERSTOWN — Otsego County Earth Festival is returning this April with online sessions and a “Drive Through, Drop Off” recycling event for county residents. Earth Festival events will take place from April 22-24.

“We’re still not at a point where we can hold large-scale, in-person events,” said OCCA Executive Director, Amy Wyant. “This hybrid model will allow us to reach many people while keeping everyone safe.”

Earth Festival will kick off with online events on April 22 and 23. Sessions will include a mix of educational sessions and fun activities such as a scavenger hunt and a trivia night.

On Saturday, April 24 OCCA and the Otsego County Department of Solid Waste and Planning will provide “Drive Through, Drop Off” recycling at the Meadows Office Complex. County residents will be able to drop off uncommon items for recycling including tennis balls, Styrofoam, natural wine corks, and inkjet cartridges. In addition, Empire Recycling will provide free document shredding through its Confidata shredding service.

The “Drive Through, Drop Off” event will require people to remain in their cars and wear masks. They will pull up to a particular station and have volunteers unload items from their car. Volunteers will work to sort and package collected items for processing. The event will be free of charge, but pre-registration is required.

“We’re happy to be able to offer this service once again and we look forward to being able to do more in-person events,” Wyant said.
