Next Berrien County Recycling Event Wednesday, June 9th, at New Buffalo Twp


Berrien County residents are setting a steady pace when it comes to safely recycling unwanted items from their basements, garages, backyards and barns, and another opportunity arrives tomorrow in New Buffalo Township.

Berrien County Community Recycling Events so far this year have already served 1,260 residents, with the next collection event slated for tomorrow, Wednesday, June 9th, from 3 pm to 7 pm at the New Buffalo Township Fire Station and Water Department located at 17655 Clay Street in New Buffalo. This event is for Berrien County residents only, and all participants are asked to remain in their vehicle, while staff unloads items for them.

Accepted items include electronics, which will be unloaded from vehicles first, and household hazardous waste, which will be unloaded last.

Accepted electronics include:

  • Computers
  • Televisions
  • Printers
  • Large and small appliances
  • Microwaves
  • Anything else with a cord or that is battery operated

There is a fee of $10 per computer monitor, $20 per television, and $10 per Freon item (i.e. air conditioners, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, and the like). Other accepted electronics are free to drop off. You can reach out to Green Earth Electronics Recycling for more information at 269-326-1232.

Accepted household chemicals and hazards include:

  • Home, garden, yard, garage, bathroom, and workshop liquids
  • Oils
  • Fuels
  • Solvents
  • Cleaners
  • Chemicals
  • Cosmetics

Oil-based paint is accepted, however latex paint is not accepted.

Additionally, you can drop off batteries of all sizes, fluorescent light bulbs, and mercury items. Also accepted is home medical waste such as pills, liquids, aerosols, and sharps. Pills should be dumped out of pill bottles into zip-lockable bags. Sharps must come in a puncture proof container.
