Vineland crews fighting fire at Giordano's Recycling, water tenders called

VINELAND – Firefighters are at Giordano's Recycling at 110 N. Mill Road just north of West Landis Avenue for a 3-alarm fire that was reported shortly after noon Thursday and many water tenders are en route, according to department communications.

The Cumberland County mobile communications/emergency command unit is at the North Mill Road site. Millville, Bridgeton, and Franklin units are on scene with Vineland.

The fire is consuming large amounts of water. A water tender task force, with about six vehicles, was dispatched. Tankers also are refilling at hydrants at the nearby Landis Sewerage Authority.

At Vineland fire headquarters, Lt. Michael Feaster said the tender trucks are facilitating the many handheld hoses in use, calling it a question of being able to provide volume. Low water pressure on scene was reported at the start of the effort.

Firefighters also tapped a hydrant at the closed 84 Lumber store at 2070 W. Landis Avenue, adjacent to the recycling business.

Firefighters were working as of about 1 p.m. with Giordano's employees to open another approach to the fire.

Fire police were called to the scene a little after 1 p.m.
