SWACO hosting election sign collection and recycling event

Those looking to get rid of their yard signs from Tuesday's election won't have to wait long - the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio has them covered.

SWACO is holding a collection and recycling event for yard signs Saturday at the Bill McDonald Athletic Complex, located at 4990 Olentangy River Road in Columbus. The free event runs from 8 a.m. to noon and is open to any Franklin County resident.

All paper and plastic signs, including Coroplast, and metal sign stands will be accepted.

"We take wire stands, too," Hanna Greer-Brown, SWACO communications manager, said. "We recycle everything."

She said the organization has hosted an election yard sign event for at least 10 years. In 2020, SWACO collected and recycled more than 3,000 pounds of yard signs.

"Three thousand is on average of what we get," Greer-Brown said of the annual event.
