SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — Do you have forgotten e-waste taking up space in your garage, or sensitive documents that you've been needing to shred? Mark your calendars, San Juan Capistrano. On Saturday, the city is hosting an e-waste and shredding event to commemorate "America Recycles Day."
The City of San Juan Capistrano partnered with Goodwill of Orange County and Southern California Shredding Inc. to provide a free recycling service to San Juan Capistrano residents. At the event, residents can bring their e-waste or old documents and have them recycled or destroyed free of charge.
Electronic waste, or e-waste, includes items such as old cell phones, computers, printers, microwaves and other small appliances. To participate in the event, no registration is required — though the city emphasizes that the drive operates on a first-come, first-serve basis. The city also asks residents who participate in the event to wear face masks and keep all boxed and bagged items to be disposed of in the trunk of their cars.
In regard to shredding services, the city will not accept binders, wet documents, hanging file folders, cardboard, plastic bags or plastic media. There is a limit of four standard sized file boxes per car.
The free e-waste and shredding event takes place on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the City Hall parking lot, 32400 Paseo Adelanto.
