Salem Recycling Efforts Set For December

SALEM, MA — Salem will hold its next electronic recycling event on Dec. 18 from 8 a.m. to noon at Salem High School as part of the city's recycling efforts during December.

The Salem free coronavirus "Stop the Spread" drive-thru testing at Salem High will be moved to 1 to 6 p.m. that day to accommodate the recycling event.

Excess cardboard and paper can be recycled by bringing it to Greif — formerly known as Caraustar — on Jefferson Avenue. Residents can arrange to have bulky items picked up for free by calling Waste Management at 800-972-4545 to schedule an appointment. Appointments should be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance.

Residents can also purchase official orange Overflow trash bags for $1 per bag for holiday package overflow. Each household can buy up to five bags from Dec. 20 through Jan. 7 during regular office hours.

The discounted bags can only be bought at the Collector's Office, 93 Washington Street, at the Community Life Center on Bridge Street.

Salem will also begin recycling household cleaning items and personal care items like toothbrushes, razors and deodorant containers at City Hall Annex.
