Residential trash and recycling not affected by holidays

Residential trash and recycling pickups will occur as normal through the remainder of the year.

City offices will close on both Thursday and Friday, Dec. 23-24 for Christmas, but pickups will not be affected. Offices will also close on Friday, Dec. 31, but there are no residential pickups on Fridays in Fayetteville.

Commercial collections that are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 25, however, will be delayed until the following week.

The city’s transfer station will be closed on Dec. 23-25, and Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

Extra holiday trash?

Fayetteville trash and recycling customers with curbside pickup service can place up to four extra bags outside their bins to be collected each year.

The extra bag allotments are typically used during the holidays when people have more trash than will fit into their curbside containers, but those extra bags can be placed next to the bins anytime throughout the year.

Once all four bags have been used, households will be charged $7.20 for each additional bag that doesn’t fit into a bin.

Christmas tree disposal

The city will collect live Christmas trees through the end of January at no charge.

Residents can place live trees by the curb on their regular trash collection day, or take them to the city’s compost facility, located at 1708 S. Armstrong Ave.

Trees must be free from all plastic bags, stands, decorations, lights, and tinsel before they will be collected. No artificial trees will be accepted.
