Household Chemical Collection, Computer Recycling Event to be Held at Warhill H.S.


JAMES CITY COUNTY — The Virginia Peninsulas Public Service Authority (VPPSA) holds 16 household chemical collection events each year, with one coming up next month.

VPPSA collects a variety of paints, fuels, solvents, pesticides, automotive products and other chemicals from Williamsburg, James City County (JCC), York County, Poquoson and Hampton residents.

The 2022 Household Chemical Collections and Computer Recycling Events will kick off at Warhill High School4615 Opportunity Way, on Feb. 12 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Accepted materials are those usually found in a home environment, including household maintenance materials like oil paint, latex paint, solvents, glue and varnishes.

It can also include gasoline and other fuels less than 50 gallons, waxes, brake fluid and engine cleaner.

Lawn and garden materials such as insecticides, weed killers, pesticides, fertilizers and pest strips will also be accepted.

Materials such as TVS, gun powder, ammunition and household trash will not be accepted.

Computer-related items accepted for recycling include desktop and laptop computers, servers, cell phones, monitors and fax machines.

Recycling events will also be held at Warhill High School on April 9, June 11, Aug. 13 and Oct. 8.

They will also be held at locations in York County, Hampton and Poquoson throughout the year.

Proof of residency may be required at these events.
