The city of Glasgow will host its annual Clean-Up Week March 21-25

GLASGOW — City residents will have several opportunities to clean up their homes and properties during city cleanup events in the next few weeks.

The city of Glasgow will host its annual Clean-Up Week March 21-25.

“This is the yearly opportunity to clean out the garage, basement and around the house,” according to a news release from the Department of Public Works.

The DPW published a series of important information tips. Those are listed below.

  • Place large items, and bagged or boxed items by the curbside at 7 a.m. on the same day as normal garbage pickup.
  • All small items must be bagged or boxed. Loose items will not be accepted.
  • Items should not be placed next to or under trees, utility poles, on trailers or against mailboxes. Those items will not be collected either.
  • Tree and shrub trimming must be no more than 3 feet and must be tied in a bundle.
  • Residents taking items to the landfill will be charged a fee, the DPW said.

Several items will not be accepted due to limitation in collection equipment and the ability to dispose of them. Those are listed below.

  • Appliances
  • Liquids
  • Pesticides
  • Auto batteries
  • Auto parts
  • Tires
  • Asbestos
  • Construction materials
  • Large tree limbs
  • Whole trees

Appliances are accepted anytime at the Glasgow Regional Landfill at no charge, the DPW said. All coolants, including Freon, must be removed before drop-off.

Other upcoming events are listed below.

  • “Free Large Item Drop-Off” is scheduled Saturday, March 12 at the landfill from 8 a.m. to noon. The service is for city resident only, the DPW said. Recycling efforts were discontinued several months ago due to costs and inefficiencies. The DPW resumed those once-a-month efforts in February.
  • “March Saturday Recycling” is scheduled Saturday, March 5 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Public Works Parking Lot. The lot is located across from the DPW’s offices at 310 W. Front St.
  • “Free Shredder Day” is slated for Saturday, March 19. It will be held at the DPW’s parking lot, too.
