The McHenry County Department of Health will hold the first of several scheduled recycling events in 2022 this Saturday.
The event, which is open to McHenry County residents, will take place 9 a.m. to noon at Milky Way Park, 300 Lawrence Road in Harvard, in partnership with Elgin Recycling, Paper Tiger Document Solutions and the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County.
Elgin Recycling will accept the following electronic devices during the event: Televisions and computer monitors, computers, keyboards and mice, printers, fax machines, scanners, small-scale servers, DVD players, DVD recorders, VCRs, video game consoles, electronic keyboards, portable digital music players, digital converter boxes, cable and satellite receivers.
Fees apply to televisions and computer monitors. The fees are $15 for any size LCD monitor, $25 for all other units 20 inches or smaller and $35 for units 21 inches or larger. For those unable to make the event to recycle electronics and other items, Elgin Recycling has a facility in Crystal Lake, 5114 E. Terra Cotta Ave. The facility is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
Paper Tiger Document Solutions will provide a document shredding truck to securely shred paper documents onsite, free of charge. Paper shredding is limited to four banker boxes or a container of similar size per vehicle. Shredding will only be available until the truck is full. Documents must be removed from binders and binder clips beforeo the event. Paper clips and staples are acceptable. This event is for residential purposes only.
The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County will accept alkaline batteries at a fee of $1 per pound, fluorescent tubes and bulbs for a cost of 50 cents to $1 each, depending on length, clean Styrofoam, packing peanuts, reusable bubble wrap and textiles.
All colors of Styrofoam are accepted and must be clean. However, pink and blue construction foam siding will not be accepted.
