SWACO Launched Pilot Recycling Program In Partnership with Upper Arlington Schools

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) announced partnership with Upper Arlington Schools to launch a pilot recycling program aimed at creating uniform recycling procedures in schools across the district.

The partnership targets to build new regional recycling infrastructure which would effectively reduce the volume of materials sent to the Franklin County Sanitary Landfill. The partnership with schools, colleges and universities could support SWACO’s efforts to help Franklin County achieve a landfill diversion rate of 75% by 2032.

According to Joe Lombardi, Executive Director, SWACO, there exists a lot of inconsistency in recycling programs run by schools within a single school district. The pilot program focuses on helping Upper Arlington Schools to implement consistent recycling programs across their campuses.

The board of education has already agreed to enter into partnership with SWACO. Further to this, a Recycling Champions Committee has been formed, comprising staff members and custodians from schools, which will identify the challenges faced by individual programs to operate consistently within a district program. SWACO will provide necessary funding for additional recycling infrastructure and education.
