SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): WM announced plans to make huge investment in three materials recovery facilities (MRFs) across the Washington State. The investment is part of the company’s previously announced plans to invest over $800 million in recycling infrastructure improvements by 2025.
The projects comprise rebuild of one MRF and upgrade of two MRFs with state-of-the-art technology. The investment will result in greater efficiency of the facilities. The modern technology will lead to significant reduction in contamination and processing of more recyclables.
WM Cascade Recycling Center, Woodinville, Washington facility will be rebuilt by including latest technologies including technically advanced optical sorting, ballistic separators, volumetric scanners. The rebuild project, at an expense of $34 million, is expected to start by this month end and be completed before summer next year.
The upgrades amounting to $15 million at WM Spokane Materials and Recycling Technology (SMaRT) Center, Spokane, Washington are expected to commence in 2023 and end by early-2024. Also, WM had recently completed a $7 million upgrade at WM JMK Fibers in Tacoma, Washington.
Jason Rose, WM Pacific Northwest Area Vice President noted that the investment reiterates its commitment to help Washington State to achieve its sustainability goals.
