City of Jackson Launched New Recycling Challenge

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Jackson announced the launch of a new recycling challenge, the TerraCycle Solo Cup Challenge, which allows residents of the city to dispose of any size Solo cup, irrespective of its brand. The Challenge, which runs through January 6, requires that #6 has to be there at the bottom of the cup in order for it to be eligible for recycling.

The participants of the challenge just need to collect #6 plastic party cups, rinse them, stack and place them in any shipping box. After that, they are required to call or email a Recycling Coordinator to obtain a free shipping label. The customers need not pay any shipping charge, the press release noted. Those who don’t have boxes could schedule a drop-off of the cups at the Health and a Sanitation Department located at 180 Conalco Drive.

In order to minimize the transportation carbon footprint, residents are advised to ship when the box is full of #6, rigid plastic cups. Also, the cups must be dry, as UPS will reject dripping packages.

Robin Chance, City of Jackson Recycling Coordinator stated that the City is thrilled to see brands like Solo cup reach out to help combat the plastic crisis. He also thanked TerraCycle for their services.
