Long Beach Announced Comprehensive Recycling Education Program


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Long Beach’s Department of Public Works’ Environmental Services Bureau plans to conduct a free recycling education program for its residents. The eight-week long program will focus on various waste reduction strategies in connection with recycling and composting and will be open to Long Beach residents aged 18 and older.

There will be classes on eight consecutive Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon, starting on Feb. 9, comprising of classroom lessons and hands-on experiences. The recycling curriculum will cover recycling laws, recycling markets, recycling process and techniques for proper recycling. The composting curriculum will focus on both backyard composting and vermicomposting.

Residents who successfully complete the program will be certified as Master Composter Recycler, for which they need to attend at least seven out of eight classes and volunteer for a minimum of 25 hours. The classes will be mainly handled by Dalia Gonzalez-Gaeta, Recycling Specialist for the Environmental Services Bureau, other City staff and subject experts.

The registration for the program opens on Monday, Jan.2, 2023 at 10 AM. The seats will be limited.
