Lisa Cupid, Chairwoman, Cobb County expressed the hope that the reopening of the drop-off center should encourage residents to enhance recycling. The low recycling rates are partly attributed to low availability of options. The reopening delivers significant improvement to available options in Cobb County. As per recent studies, only 17% of the Cobb households recycle regularly. The County aims to boost this rate to 50%, Cupid added.

The extremely poor condition of the old center and the availability of limited options led to residents raising complaints before the Board of Commisioners, which in turn resulted in allotment of funds amounting to $737,000 towards renovation of the recycling drop-off center.

The center accepts wide range of materials, including those which are not accepted by curbside recycling, such as glass, textiles and hard-to-recycle plastics. Residents of multi-family homes or complexes, who don’t have options to recycle these materials, could drop off them at the center.
