SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Mobile announced opening of its third recycling drop-off centre. The centre will be located at 1750 Dauphin Island Parkway, next to the Waffle House. The decision to open the drop-off centre follows receipt of grant from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM).
According to the city, construction of the drop-off centre is already underway. The new site is expected to be up and running before the end of the current year. Once the facility is up and running, the site will host a Visitor Information Center for the benefit of customers who wish to use the facility.
The City of Mobile currently has two drop-off locations-one at 4851 Museum Drive,City's Western Administrative Complex in Langan Park across from the Mobile Museum of Art and the other at 308 Pinehill Drive,Behind (to the North of) the Police Headquarters between Government St. and Airport Blvd. These two drop-off centers accept recyclables only from Mobile residents and are open Monday-Friday 7 a.m. -5 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 7 a.m.-4 p.m.
The two existing drop-off centres had accounted for collection of 911 tonnes of recyclable materials during the previous year.
