City of Portsmouth to Implement Trash, Recycling Changes

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The proposed changes in trash, recycling will come into effect this Monday, 13th November, 2023 at the City of Portsmouth in southeast Virginia. The new system is being introduced with the aim of enhancing convenience, sustainability and overall service quality, said the city news release.

The trash and recycling for Churchland will move from Mondays to Wednesdays. However, there will be no change to the Blue and White recycling schedule. The change is made because many a holidays occur on Mondays.

As per new schedule, residents are required to schedule all bulk pickups for oversized items such as furniture, appliances and tree debris. The City will provide 12 free bulk pick-ups per year for every household. The bulk pickup will be on resident’s normal trash day and will not have any additional fees.

Also, residents are required to place all trash on street/curb in front of their residence. Henceforth, trash will not be picked up from alleys. The service will provide assistance to move their trash cans to and from the street for residents over 65 or residents with a disability. The collection schedules and recycling guidelines will be provided online, thus ensuring easy access to residents.
