SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced over $60 million in in Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling (SWIFR) grants for Tribes and Intertribal Consortia and over $33 million in Recycling Education and Outreach (REO) grants.
The above grants are part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda and are being announced on the occasion of 29th America Recycles Day and the second anniversary of President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The grant funding will be distributed to a total of 84 recipients.
The grants are a reflection of the U.S. administration’s commitment to tackling environmental justice and the climate crisis. A major portion of the grant will benefit undeserved and overburdened communities. The grants will also help consumers to clear their confusions regarding recycling and help replace outdated recycling infrastructure, said the news release.
EPA had recently announced over $105 million in grants for states and communities, as part of efforts to support a circular economy and ensure lower greenhouse gas emissions, while rebuilding the nation’s recycling infrastructure.
