SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Woodlands Township successfully hosted the annual 3R Recycling Drive-thru on Saturday, December 9 at Sterling Ridge Park and Ride. The event presented the community with a unique opportunity to recycle items that are not permitted to be put into curbside recycling carts.
The participants had to organize the items by category and put into boxes or bags, which were placed in the trunk or back passenger side seat so that volunteers could access them conveniently. The items were removed by volunteers by opening the trunk, hatchback or rear side passenger door. Only residents were allowed to participate in the event. No businesses were entertained. Also, the event did not offer document shredding.
The items collected included batteries, block styrofoam, disposable razors and packaging, eyeglasses, sunglasses and cases, light bulbs, oral care products, plastic bags and film, small electronics, snack and drink pouches, textiles, election signs and stakes, and bikes. The collected bikes were refurbished and donated back to the community.
The event was originally scheduled to be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, but was postponed to Saturday, December 9 due to unfavorable weather conditions. The improved weather conditions during the day ensured increased participation by residents.
