SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): AMP Robotics has partnered with Recycling and Disposal Solutions (RDS) on a newly AI-powered facility in Portsmouth, Virginia, which is expected to divert large quantities of municipal solid waste (MSW) from landfills.
As part of the collaboration, RDS sorts recyclables and organics from MSW at its facility. The company has been processing recycling at its Portsmouth facility since 2005, but majority of the MSW had ended up in landfill. The company built a new building adjacent to its existing facility to process around 150 tons of MSW per day.

AMP Robotics has installed its AMP ONE sortation technology at the RDS facility. The AI-powered technology has the capability of separating bagged trash into mixed recyclables, organics and residue streams.
Commenting on the development, Joe Benedetto, president of RDS stated that the new AI-powered MSW sorting facility will help to extend the life of landfills. In addition to reducing environmental impacts, it will also lead to significant reduction in disposal costs. AMP was a natural fit to partner on this project, he added.
Matanya Horowitz, Founder and CEO, AMP Robotics noted that Portsmouth will serve as a blueprint for other municipalities which struggles from stagnant recycling rates, by presenting innovative methods to expand recycling.
