SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Leading non-profit UTEC will partner with the Town of Bedford to offer its residents free curbside mattress recycling collection for the third consecutive year. The free service, scheduled by appointment, is being offered bi-weekly on Mondays.
The UTEC recycling program has played a key role in helping Bedford residents to safely dispose and recycle thousands of mattresses. The UTEC’s team of young adults are responsible for manual deconstruction as well as unloading of mattresses. The program extracts recyclable materials from mattresses and box springs, at a high average mattress recycling rate of around 85%.
It must be noted that UTEC is one among the three mattress recyclers approved by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection to offer such services in the region. Presently, UTEC collaborates with nearly 40 municipalities, in addition to several schools and hotels, thus making it the largest mattress recycler in northern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.
Gregg Croteau, CEO of UTEC said that UTEC is proud to begin its third year of partnership with the Town of Bedford to offer curbside mattress recycling to local residents. The partnership provides valuable workforce development skills to local young adults, apart from delivering significant environmental benefits.
