3-alarm fire burns wooden pallet recycling business in Northeast Portland

Nearly 100 firefighters responded Thursday night to put out a three-alarm fire at a Northeast Portland business that recycles wooden pallets, Portland Fire & Rescue said.

The business also serves as a home.

Firefighters said the fire started outside the business in a large stack of wooden pallets, lit a tree on fire and then the structure, which, according to spokesperson Rick Graves, sustained significant damage and collapse.

The blaze knocked down power lines in the area. Graves said the power company cut the power to protect crews fighting the flames.

That resulted in power outages around Northeast Columbia Boulevard to Cornfoot Road.

Firefighters said other buildings were threatened by the fire.

The fire was called in at 7:30 p.m.

The fight to put out the blaze was impeded by a limited water supply, PF&R said.

No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
