Glass recycling drop-off launches in Evansville

Residents in Vanderburgh County once again have a location in Evansville to drop off their recyclable glass, something that some residents say was long overdue. Thanks to an initiative from Recycling Services, a glass recycling location is set up at the Tri-State Resource Recovery in Evansville near the intersection of Morgan Avenue and Read Street.

Most of the glass items collected at this location will be used as glass insulation by Indiana-based Knauf Insulation. Recycling is an option for some in Vanderburgh County, but glass items that are included in single stream recycling often end up in landfills. Although not a city program Evansville City Councilwoman and Sixth and Zero owner Mary Allen is helping lead the initiative. She says the early demand from area residents shows a need that had to be filled.

“That sends a signal that people want this, we want an opportunity to recycle and repurpose our glass, and people are willing to make the effort,” explains Allen. “So, we know it takes more effort to collect your glass and to drop it off, so we really appreciate that effort knowing that it does make a difference.”

Vanderburgh County residents can drop off their recyclable glass Monday to Friday from 8am to 3pm.
