Residents Urged to Reduce Halloween Pumpkin Waste

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Residents of West Oxfordshire have been alerted by the UK charity Hubbub to the possible environmental effects of Halloween festivities. It encouraged locals to cut back on pumpkin waste, which is one of the main wastes produced by homes at this time of year.

In Oxford, Hubbub started the "Eat Your Pumpkin" campaign ten years prior. The way people feel about eating Halloween pumpkins has drastically changed over time. Currently, about 59% of individuals know that Halloween pumpkins are edible. Compared to 42% at the start of the campaign a decade ago, this is a significant improvement. Nevertheless, it is anticipated that 15.8 million pumpkins would be wasted in the UK this year.

Any leftover pumpkins must be either composted at home or given to the district council's weekly food waste collection program. All foreign objects, including decorations and wax, must be taken out of the pumpkins.

Costumes are another significant source of Halloween garbage. According to Hubbub research, almost 90% of families buy brand-new Halloween costumes each year. After only one use, about 40% of them are thrown away. Residents might purchase used costumes or build their own out of discarded clothes to ensure an environmentally friendly Halloween.
