SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): In Greater Cincinnati, Rumpke's Hefty Renew Program has been a tremendous success. The flexible plastics collection program began nearly a year earlier. The business said that over the course of a year, client participation had steadily increased.
In the first year of the Hefty Renew program, Greater Cincinnati recycled about 15 tons of plastic, according to Rumpke. Hefty's online portal received requests for starting kits from about 10,000 users. Molly Yeager, Rumpke's corporate relations manager, pointed out that the processed items include plastic films, straws, candy wrappers, foam takeaway containers, and plastic bags.
Local businesses such as Kroger, Target, Walmart, Ace Hardware, Meijer, and others sell the orange Hefty ReNew bags. Curbside recycling carts are used to collect the bags containing recyclables. Rumpke's recycling center collects them in orange chutes. These materials are sent to end users who transform them into plastic pellets for usage in a wide range of products.
Almost one-fourth of Rumpke's Hefty ReNew carton sales in all of their program markets in the United States come from the Cincinnati market.
