SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): In an effort to increase battery recycling, the City of Brockville announced that it has extended its collaboration with Call2Recycle. The recycling program enters a new phase with the expansion.
In an effort to make battery recycling more accessible to Brockville residents, the Call2Recycle’s Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program now provides smart battery drop-off bins at a number of handy locations, such as City Hall, the Public Library, the Brockville Memorial Civic Center, and Centennial Youth Arena. Used household batteries weighing less than five kilograms can be placed in these containers.

The procedure of collecting batteries will be much safer thanks to the smart containers. When the containers are filled, Call2Recycle will be notified via sensors installed in the containers.
The City collaborated with Call2Recycle in 2022 by organizing regular collection of batteries using ordinary bins. The program has collected more than 2,300 kilograms of used batteries over the past three years. In 2024, City run a campaign urging residents to drop off their used batteries responsibly. The hazardous waste thus collected are responsibly handled at various municipal sites.
The collaboration will help Brockville improve its environmental sustainability, noted Mayor Matt Wren.
