Mishawaka, IN to Switch to New Trash and Recycling Services Provider on January 1

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Waste Management (WM) is preparing to take Republic Services' place as Mishawaka, IN's new garbage and recycling service provider on January 1, 2025. It should be mentioned that Republic and the city have had a waste pickup agreement since 2008.

The new 5.5-year contract with WM, which would take effect on January 1, 2025, was already approved by the Common Council.

Residents in the city will receive new trash and recycling bins as part of the new contract. The new 96-gallon bins will be delivered starting on December 2 and finished by December 20, according to city officials. Two 96-gallon bins—one for trash and one for recycling—will be given to each customer. After January 1st, consumers who would like to switch out these bins for smaller ones may get in touch with WM.

Customers must keep using their Republic bins until the end of this year, according to Matthew Lentsch, executive director of Development and Governmental Services. After the trash pickup date, the containers must be left outside for Republic to pick up. The new containers are not expected to be used until January 1.

The new contract states that normal garbage removal will now cost $21.69 per month instead of the existing $15.66. Additionally, the monthly fee for senior citizens would increase from $12.74 to $17.55.
