SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Plans to construct a new recycling facility on Williamson's Redmont Road have been shelved by the Chittenden Solid Waste District (CSWD). According to CSWD Executive Director Sarah Reeves, the agency is now collaborating with the district's board of directors to locate a new site for its recycling center.
The facility was approved by the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources earlier in 2020 after a thorough survey. However, the land quality has been affected by the high rainfall over the last two years, which has compelled CSWD to find a new site. The project will be delayed as a result of the ruling, most likely delaying its completion until at least mid-2026.
The current recycling facility along Industrial Road in Williston will be replaced with the new one that is being proposed. 50% more materials will be able to be handled by it. Additionally, it will use the most recent automated sorting techniques to replace the current center's manual sorting. Additionally, materials from commercial and household garbage haulers in Chittenden County as well as adjacent areas will be accepted.
Reeves stated that the board remains strongly committed to the facility and that it will be an amazing one once constructed. She thanked the County's voters for their resounding support.
