Ariton recycling center is preparing to open another center

ARITON, Ala - Back in August of 2018, Mission Point was in the process of moving its recycling center to Ariton that caused somewhat of a mess.

"Locals wanted a way to become green. They wanted to be able to recycle stuff that could be recycled,” said Enfinger.

That's where Mission Point's "Cardboard for Cause" comes into play.

Haley Enfinger, Executive Director for Mission Point, says "As individuals, we really need to become green. If there's stuff in the landfill that can be re-used, we need to re-use it."

Six months ago, WTVY got several calls from people concerned about boxes being piled up at the Mission Point warehouse.

"We were in transition of moving locations in Ozark from two different locations...so we were moving," answered Enfinger.

People kept recycling and the trash continued to build.

"Cardboard was still coming, businesses were still operating...things were still happening and we were still collecting the cardboard," replied Enfinger.

They collect more than cardboard.

"We recycle clothes, belts, purses, shoes, etc..." replied Enfinger.

Enfinger wants people to know that the center is doing more than going green...it's helping men at the shelter.

"What used to be the Dale County Rescue Mission is now Mission Point. Those individuals come to us homeless. We don't know why they're homeless, but we work through those barriers," said Enfinger.

Enfinger says Ozark is a great place to open up a second location because it's centrally-located.

There's no date set for when the Ozark Recycling Center will be open.

Mission Point is also looking at creating new centers in other Wiregrass counties.
