Lane County loves to recycle, but there hasn’t been any public plastics collection in Eugene this year. Cottage-Grove based EcoGeneration has run take-backs in rural areas recently, so Lane County Waste Management reached out to them to host an event Sunday afternoon at the Sheldon Community Center.
“People can bring us their clean and dry recycling," says EcoGeneration founder David Gardiepy. "Hopefully they’ve also reviewed the other requirements online because each stream is kind of different in what they do and don’t allow, and there’s probably, honestly, going to be a wait.”
The nonprofit recycles most plastics, and many other items from cosmetic containers to razors. He says this is not like curbside recycling. If people don’t follow the guidelines, they’ll be sent home with lots of material. One week out, over 500 people expressed interest. Gardiepy says they’ll have three more events in Eugene soon, so people may want to plan for another time.
