The East Montgomery County Improvement District and a recycling company on Saturday are hosting a free electronic recycling drop off in New Caney.
People can leave their electronic recyclables with Houston-based R.A.K.I. Electronics Recycling employees 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the EMCID complex parking lot on 21575 U.S. 59.
And the sooner residents make their drop off, the better.
“With many people having been home for the past several months, we do anticipate many more items being dropped off,” said EMCID spokeswoman Kelley Mattlage. “So once the recycling trucks are filled up, we will not be able to accept any more items.”
Capacity is a 53-foot trailer and a 26-foot tractor-trailer, Mattlage pointed out. EMCID is reminding people that items eligible for drop off must be removed from packaging materials.
COVID-19 mitigation efforts appear to be already in place as person-to-person contact, Mattlage explained, has not been typical in EMCID’s previous recycling events.
People in the past have been able to set down their recyclables on a table outside, according to Mattlage. For larger items, recycling employees would unload them from the back of a pickup truck without the driver getting off, she continued.
“We don’t anticipate much person-to-person contact this year either,” she said.
Drivers will need to come into the driveway for drop off through the western entrance of Eagle Drive, according to a map provided by EMCID.
East county residency will not be a requirement to drop off and no IDs, cable or utility bills need to be presented, Mattlage said.
