Wabash County recycling company receives Indiana honor

INDIANAPOLIS (WPTA21) - A Wabash County company on Tuesday accepted honors from Gov. Eric Holcomb for its efforts to improve the environment.

Midwest Dairy Recycling is one of six recipients of the 2020 Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence.

The winners were announced Sept. 22 and were presented by Holcomb a week later.

“Our 2020 Governor’s Award winners have made great strides in improving Indiana’s environment,” said IDEM Commissioner Bruno Pigott. “By using innovative environmental practices, they have reduced waste, saved money, and contributed greatly to environmental protection efforts for Hoosiers.”

The Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence is an annual program to recognize leadership in environmental practices and to spotlight programs and facilities.

The awards program is open to all Indiana facilities, state and local units of government, individuals, and technical assistance organizations that implement exemplary environmental projects with measurable results.

Midwest Dairy Recycling, based in North Manchester, was recognized for developing a system to put to use outdated or damaged milk products at its veal operations across Indiana.

The program was launched in 2017 and has since recycled more than 2.9 million gallons of milk, 2.2 million pounds of hog feed, 444,568 pounds of plastic, and 1.4 million pounds of baby formula.
