City Hosts Electronic Recycling Event

The City of Indianapolis is hosting a post holiday recycling event Jan. 23.

The electronic recycling drive will accept many of the items that people may have upgraded over the holidays. The Office of Sustainability will run the event at Krannert Park on the west side in an effort to divert electronic trash from landfills.

In a written statement, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said all Marion County residents are invited to participate.

"Together, we can work to divert this electronic waste from our landfills,” Hogsett said, ”all while protecting against COVID-19 transmission and continuing to offer re-entry employment opportunities to our neighbors."

The event will be held in partnership with RecycleForce, an organization that provides re-entry employment and training.

The drive will accept cell phones, computers and gaming systems. Many other items will be accepted and organizers say nearly anything with a cord can be recycled.

The city also accepts e-trash at Tox Drop events held three Saturdays out of every month and at special e-cycling events throughout the year.
