Toxic waste is a growing problem. It’s estimated that the average household disposes one pound of hazardous waste each year. Rather than release toxins into our environment, household hazardous waste collections are available throughout the Spring, Summer and early Fall seasons for proper disposal of harmful products containing dangerous materials. 2022 season dates are set!
Season is in full swing. Next upcoming event is scheduled for July 16, 2022 at Kouts Middle/High School located at 302 E. College Avenue in Kouts, IN. Participants are asked to enter the event from Elizabeth Street. Event will run from 9am to 2pm CT.
At upcoming collection events, Porter County residents can dispose of clean and dry plastic bags, plastic film wraps, grocery bags and plastic wrapping. Water softener bags are not be accepted.
Beyond plastic bags residents can dispose of products containing: corrosive, toxic, ignitable or reactive substances. Common household hazardous waste items include anti-freeze, motor oil, batteries (household & automotive), fluorescent bulbs, oil based paints, deck stains, and household smoke detectors.
