Stainless Steel Scrap Grade 201 is characterized by its low nickel content. Grade 201 can be used as a substitute for type 301 in many applications, but is less corrosion resistant than 301. The greater nitrogen content in 201 offers higher yield strength and toughness when compared with 301. The additional carbon component provides greater effectiveness to the austenitic nature of stainless steel.
Type 201 is widely used in a range of household appliances, windows, doors, automotives and roofing for railway cars and trailers.
Grade 201 stainless steel can be formed, welded, hot-worked and annealed.
Stainless steel scrap is one of the most common items that US scrap yards deal with. However, please note that the price per pound will not be very high for this category of scrap.
price
Most scrap yards in the US will accept stainless steel scrap items and will pay you the per pound price depending on the different types of stainless steel scrap. Hence, it is essential to separate out your stainless steel scrap from the general steel scrap. Otherwise, the scrap yards will pay you only the bulk per ton rate, which will be very much lesser when matched with the prices of individual grades.
yards
The various grades of stainless steel scrap cannot be distinguished by looking at them. Several tests are needed to confirm the category of scrap they actually belong to. Look out for scrap yards that accept specific categories, as many small to medium sized yards may offer only a generic ferrous metal price for your scrap. Please remember that even the lowest stainless steel scrap grade is worth than the flat rate.
Bulk scrap trade often happens over the Internet, which allows for direct negotiation of prices among potential buyers and sellers.
