On Saturday, June 1, 12,126 pounds of paper was brought to a paper shredding event at the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority. The event was sponsored by the office of U.S. Rep. Kerry Benninghoff. Benninghoff has previously hosted annual paper shredding events in Centre County, which, he noted in a press release from a former event, serve as a “great opportunity for members of our community to safely and securely get rid of sensitive papers that have piled up from spring and summer cleaning or those just looking to declutter.”
During the event, 182 cars stopped at the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority to deposit their paper, which was shredded, baled and marketed to local companies to be recycled.
Benninghoff and his staff attended the event to greet constituents as they recycled their paper.
“We are pleased to assist Representative Benninghoff and his staff to provide secure document destruction for county residents,” said Mimi Joy Cooper, recycling coordinator for the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority.
Cooper was appointed to the position earlier this year after Joanne Shafer, who was in the role for 33 years, retired.
For those unable to attend the event, state Rep. Paul Takac will host another opportunity for community members to shred their paper later in the fall. Takac ran his first free paper shredding event in October of last year. The Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority noted in a statement that more details for the event will be released soon.
