Alpena County to Draft and Develop New Recycling Plan

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Alpena County Board of Commissioners have decided to hire the services of a consultant, Resource Recycling Systems of Ann Arbor towards drafting and developing a new recycling plan. The decision by Michigan requires the County to draft a recycling plan before 5th July, 2024 and develop it to obtain the approval of the state within next three years.

According to the state directive, the state grants will help the counties to meet the cost of developing and implementing the new plans. Also, additional funds will be allocated for multi-county planning areas. It must be noted that the counties have been asked to replace their current solid waste management plans with new materials management plans that focus on sustainable approaches.

The updated Michigan’s Solid Waste Program had laid out plans for various counties to focus more on recyclable materials rather than on those materials which people throw away into garbage.

County Administrator Mary Catherine Hannah noted that Alpena County and its partners are ahead of the game. The county is officially on the clock and has got 180 days to prepare and submit a notice of intent to the state, Hannah added.
