Aurora Annual Recycling Event Turned Out to Be a Huge Success

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The annual Shred and Recycle Event held in Aurora during the month has been touted as a huge success. The event witnessed increased participation by residents and outstanding support from local volunteers.

According to State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, the year saw several individuals engaged in spring cleanup activities, secure shredding and electronic waste disposals and responsible disposal of medications. In addition, the event also received donations in the form of eyeglasses, cell phones and books, Kifowit noted.

The event collected more than 9,100 pounds of paper shredding material, 725 books, 204 eyeglasses, 61 cell phones, and over 250 pounds of medications and sharps. The collected cellphones will be donated to Mutual Ground.

The event highlighted the power of community-driven initiatives towards creation of a more sustainable and responsible society. KCT Credit Union, Fox Metro Wastewater Reclamation District, and many volunteers from the African-American Men of Unity (AAMOU) contributed to the success of the event. Fox Metro collect both prescription and over-the-counter medications towards safe disposal.

The highly anticipated 2023 Recycle & Shred Day Event took place on Saturday, July 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 1677 Montgomery Road, Aurora, IL 60504.
