The most recent round of DOE grants are being funded through the $1 trillion infrastructure law passed in 2021 and are intended to boost domestic production of batteries and battery materials.

American Battery Technology Co. and Cirba Solutions, who each received grants of $150 million and $200 million, are the two main beneficiaries of the funding. Additionally, Clarios Circular Solutions was awarded a grant of $150 million.

With the grant money, American Battery Technology Co. plans to construct a new lithium-ion battery recycling facility on a commercial scale in South Carolina. The facility will have the capacity to process around 100,000 metric tons of battery materials annually. Additionally, Cirba Solutions will use the award to build a new factory in South Carolina that will be able to process more than 60,000 tons of batteries annually. Meanwhile, Clarios Circular Solutions will utilize the grant to modernize its existing facility in the region.
