Blaine County Recycling Center Urges Residents to Recycle Old Electronics

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Blain County Recycling Center has urged residents to recycle their old electronics so as to prevent them from causing harm to the environment. The Center is currently running its post-holiday recycling campaign.

On an average, the recycling center collects approximately 60,000 pounds of electronic waste in a year. These include televisions, printers, computers, laptops, countertop appliances, toasters, microwaves and vacuum cleaners. Almost 90% of these are in non-working condition. The collected e-waste are sorted and shredded at the centre, which in turn are used in the manufacture of new electronic parts.

Lamar Waters, Recycling Supervisor stated that there has been a rising demand for Christmas lights, because of the copper and the wire present in them. For the first time, the city is collecting old Christmas lights. The two drop-off sites-one in Ketchum and the other in Hailey accepts live Christmas trees. The City has installed a bin next to these sites, where residents could drop off their Christmas lights.

The two full recycle drop-off bins in Balin County are located in Ketchum at the Environmental Resource Center on Washington Street and Galena Summit at Smiley Creek. In addition, the recycling center located on Ohio Gulch Road in Hailey accepts discarded electronics.
