Call2Recycle Announced 2023 U.S. Battery Collection and Recycling Data


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Call2Recycle- the nation’s leading consumer battery stewardship and collection program announced the annual U.S. national battery collection and recycling data for 2023.

Even in the midst of surge in battery recycling costs, the U.S. collected over 8 million pounds of batteries for recycling during the previous year. This comprises of more than 5.4 million lbs of rechargeable batteries and over 2.6 million lbs of primary batteries, Call2Recycle data said.

The overall U.S. battery collection recorded marginal growth of 1.5% from 2022. The collection of single-use batteries increased by 11%, whereas the rechargeable battery collection in 2023 recorded modest decline by 2.8% from the prior year. In addition, over 60,000 lbs of e-bike batteries were collected and recycled during the previous year from across 1,900 collection sites nationwide.

Commenting on the data, Leo Raudys, Chief Executive Officer, Call2Recycle noted that it is thrilled to continue the progress towards a more sustainable and circular economy. He urged collective action from regulators, manufacturers, retailers, and consumers to drive further progress, especially due to challenges posed by rising collection costs.
