SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Covington announced significant expansion to recycling program, by allowing more items to be recycled in curbside cart.
By subscribing to Hefty ReNew program, launched by Hefty Brand and Rumpke Waste & Recycling, the city will provide its residents with special orange bag, in which several additional items including foam take-out containers, straws, candy wrappers, plastic utensils, and other hard-to-recycle plastics could be placed for recycling.
According to media release, the newly accepted items are to be placed inside the orange bag before being thrown into the recycling cart. The orange bags will be kept for sale at Kroger stores. Also, residents can request a free Hefty ReNew starter kit online at www.hefty.com, it noted.
The materials that are already accepted by curbside program should be placed loose in the cart and should not be bagged.
The City officials lauded the program, saying that it will contribute significantly to reducing Covington’s garbage. The city’s curbside recycling program has a residents’ participation rate of around 61%. The city recycled nearly 2,300 to 2,450 tons of materials every year. It reminded residents to be clear about what all items could go into the orange bag, so as to avoid any contamination.
