Counties Reached Agreement on New Waste Management Pact

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Manistee, Missaukee and Wexford counties have approved a new interlocal agreement towards establishing a new waste management pact. By way of this agreement, the three counties have demonstrated their commitment to a greener future.

The agreement targets to formulate a collaborative materials management plan that gives more impetus to sustainable practices such as composting and recycling. The deadline to send out the letter of intent is July this year. The letter of intent should clearly mention whether the counties are going ahead with a multicounty waste management plan. The above three counties have agreed to join hands. However, Benzie and Mason have expressed their willingness to collaborate with other intercounty groups.

In the Board of Commissioners meeting held Tuesday, Lisa Sagala, Controller/Administrator, Manistee County reminded about the need to act ahead of the fast approaching deadline. The Commissioners held discussions on the various steps needed to fulfil obligations under the state’s updated solid waste program.

The County governments will be eligible to receive grant money from the state in support for their multi-county recycling programs.
