SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Dakota County announced that it has acquired the land for building the proposed recycling facility. The facility is expected to address the rising demand for waste and recycling services in the region.
The County has paid $4 million towards purchase of the 12-acre site at 10222 215th St. W., Lakeville from Scannell Properties. The property is located just south of 215th Street and north of 217th Street. The $24 million recycling facility will be built in partnership with Scott County and will serve residents of both the counties. The facility will accept household hazardous waste and recyclables from customers.

The construction of the facility is likely to begin in June or July this year, with the official opening expected by fall of 2025. The counties could be able to meet this timeline only if it manages to secure additional state funding of $8 million. Earlier in 2021, it had received $2 million from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s Capital Assistance Program. This is in addition to funding of $10.36 million from Dakota County and $3.64 million from Scott County.
In the initial phase, the facility will have 17,770 square feet of office and recycle facility space, with an additional 9,900 square feet of space in a second phase.
