Deschutes County to Cut Ribbon on New Redmond Waste Facility

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Deschutes County Board of Commissioners announced that a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of a new solid waste facility in Redmond will be held on Friday, May 17, 10 AM. The facility is located at the Negus Transfer Station, which is located at 2400 NE Maple Ave.

The 35,000 square foot facility was built at an investment of around $20 million. The facility provides a more efficient way of to transfer trash to the Knott Landfill. Also, it will ensure a safer and more convenient option for customers to dispose of their trash items. The new facility will officially open for public on Monday, May 20, the County press release noted.

The recycled material and trash need to be deposited in two separate locations within the facility. The recycled and organic materials will have to be deposited in designated locations outside. Meantime, trash items need to be thrown inside the new building.

The Transfer Station will make a switch from volume-based to weight-based. The trash disposal fee at the Transfer Station will be calculated based on weight. This will help the County Solid Waste keep a more accurate record on the amount of waste entering the Transfer Station.

Knott Landfill Recycling and Transfer Facility is the only landfill in Deschutes County and is estimated to remain open until 2029.
