People had the opportunity to get rid of their unwanted electronics in an eco-friendly way on Sunday at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
An electronics destruction company called ERI hosted the e-waste recycling event. Organizers say, many people do not know how to properly throw away old electronics. Additionally, the goal of the event is to make the disposal process easier for everyone.
"Especially in the electronics today, there's a lot of hazardous materials in them, and the old way of doing it was just throwing things into landfills or shipping them overseas, so we're really trying to bring that all in house, recycle everything responsibly for the environment," Ross Sylvester, Director of Logistics for ERI, said.
After Sunday, all of the material will go back to ERI's facility to be sorted, shredded, separated and put back into re-use.
