CANTON, GA — The Cherokee County Recycling Center, in partnership with Premier Surplus, Inc., is hosting an electronics recycling event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the County Administration Building, 1130 Bluffs Parkway.
"Due to the overwhelming response at the electronics recycling event in December, we decided to host another one in January," said Cherokee County Recycling Center Director Troy Brazie. "We've more than doubled the tonnage received at these recycling events from seven tons in 2019 to 17.5 tons in 2020."
To expedite drop-offs, the Cherokee County Recycling Center plans to increase the number of event staff to assist with unloading vehicles in addition to controlling the traffic flow by closing the left-turn lane on Bluffs Parkway ensuring that all vehicles enter in a single line from the direction of Riverstone.
"As long as cars are in line by 1 p.m., they will receive service," Brazie said.
Event staff will be at the end of the car line to ensure all those in line by 1 p.m. are able to unload.
Items accepted at no charge include personal computers, laptops, modems, floppy/disk drives, printers, batteries, CD-ROMS, fax machines, cell phones, circuit boards, copiers, phones, PC power supplies, stereos/VCR/CD players, scanners, keyboards, typewriters, toner cartridges, mouse/mice, text equipment, wire/cabling, PC monitors and networking equipment.
Televisions are accepted for a $20 fee. CRT monitors are $5 each, and large projection TVs are $40. Accepted payment methods include cash or check. Debit and credit cards will not be accepted.
Items not accepted are wooden cabinet TV sets, gas-powered equipment, tires, household trash and appliances.
This is a drive-through event. People should remain in their car, and volunteers will take all equipment from the vehicle. Remove any equipment from boxes and cables from each device. All cables may be placed in a bag for drop off that day.
