SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the selectees for the Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling Grants for Tribes and Intertribal Consortia as well as the selectees for the Recycling Education and Outreach Grant program.
The Recycling Education and Outreach Grants amounting to $33.3 million aims to boost recycling collection rates. It also targets to reduce contamination through local recycling and composting programs by ensuring increased public participation.
The EPA announced grant funding for as many as 25 projects during the past week, in line with the America Recycles Day. Out of this, 19 will serve disadvantaged communities. The grants are being funded from President Joe Biden’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act 2021.
The New York City Department of Sanitation received a grant of $2 million will help it to conduct outreach and education efforts, ahead of the rollout of the citywide composting program.
The other key recipients along with the funding amount is as follows: Institute for Local Self Reliance ($1.4 million), City of Tacoma Environmental Services ($1.99 million), City of Long Beach, California ($1.22 million), Northeast Resource Recovery Association ($440,000), Michigan Recycling Coalition ($1.82 million).
