ExxonMobil Sued for Misleading Consumers About Plastic Recycling

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): California has filed legal action against ExxonMobil, alleging that the firm has misled consumers about plastic recycling for decades.

According to a lawsuit filed in San Francisco County Superior Court, the State Attorney General Rob Bonta noted that the company has been using slick marketing and misleading public statements for almost half a century to deceive consumers by making them believe that recycling was an effective way to deal with plastic pollution. Furthermore, it states that the company misled the public about the merits of plastic recycling.

The lawsuit seeks the court’s intervention to compel the company to put an end to its deceptive practices that threaten the environment and the public. Additionally, the company must be held liable to pay civil penalties as compensation for the harm inflicted by plastic pollution.

In response, ExxonMobil blamed the state administration for failing to implement an effective recycling system over several decades. The state authorities are now seen attempting to blame others in order to cover up their failure, it said. Instead, California officials should have collaborated with the corporation to keep plastic out of landfills, so addressing the issue, ExxonMobil stated.
